Welcome to Expand Your Life Podcast. This is Jc Jones, and you’re listening to Episode 25.
Welcome back everyone. I hope you had a great week. Today we’re going to be talking about beliefs and how your beliefs control the results that you have in your life.
Our beliefs determine our thoughts. And as we discussed in Episode 16 our thoughts are what create the feelings that we have and how we feel determines the actions that we take and ultimately the results that we have in our life.
So what beliefs are in control in your life?
Some people believe that the beliefs they have are something that are set in stone. That the beliefs that they have make them who they are. So why would they change or question them?
Well, what are the results of those beliefs in their lives? If the results of your life are something that you’re happy with then there’s no need to question the beliefs that have created those results,
But if the results of your life are something other than what you were happy with, it’s important to figure out what beliefs have created those results in order to create something new. Create something different.
Without understanding that your beliefs are what determine your results, you’ll feel lost trying to create something new for yourself. The behaviors and the mindset will still be there while you’re trying to create this change. And you won’t understand why things aren’t working. Why your results aren’t changing.
What are some of the results you have in your life that you would like to change? That you would like to improve upon? And what are the beliefs that are causing those results?
The first thing I’d like to talk about today is where our beliefs come from. Most of our beliefs are created while we we’re very young. By the things that we see, hear, experience. The things that we’re taught. How others interact with us. Our peers, our teachers, our parents, our siblings.
And because we’re very young, we accept those beliefs with very little evidence that they’re right,
So how is this a problem?
Well, what we saw, heard and experienced was filtered through the perceptions and the maturity level of a very young child. We created meaning for things based on that level of understanding. If you have children, imagine one of your kids determining your beliefs with the understanding of life that they have now, and you might get a clear picture of the problem.
It will also open your eyes a little bit as to the fact that that is exactly what your kids are doing right now. Everything they are experiencing right now is determining the beliefs that they’re going to have as an adult. That’s why it’s so important that we’re mindful of the things that we say to our children. The things that we complain about. And really determine if the beliefs that we have for our own lives are something that we want to pass down to our children.
We’ve discussed where our beliefs come from. We’ve discussed that many of our beliefs are not even ours. So how do we determine what our beliefs are?
Think about each area of your life and the results that you have in that area of your life, write down the results that you don’t like or that are holding you back and question where in your past you might have learned that belief.
For example:
If you’re having results that you don’t want in your financial area of life. Let’s say that you have a hard time saving money or you feel like you can’t ever get out of debt or you never have enough money. Whatever the result that you have in your life that you don’t like, write that result down.
And then look back to where in your past, you learned that it’s hard to get out of debt. It’s hard to save money. It’s difficult. Money is difficult. Money doesn’t grow on trees. What do you think I am made of money? Have you ever heard that one somewhere in your past?
Your belief was created by what you heard, what you saw, and what you felt around money. If money was scarce growing up, you’re going to have beliefs around scarcity and money.
If you saw people around you not using their money wisely and always being out of money not being able to pay their bills, that creates beliefs around money that you may be dealing with now.
The knowledge around where your belief came from is not as important as knowing what the belief actually is. Once you’ve determined what the belief is that you have around that result that you’re getting now, all you need to do is to flip it around.
Flip that belief around and start looking for evidence to support your new belief. That’s the thing about evidence. You can find evidence to support any belief that you choose. You can find evidence to support a belief around scarcity of money, and you can find evidence to support a belief around abundance of money just as easily.
But whatever our belief is, that is the evidence we will see. That is the evidence we will look for to support that belief. So that’s why it’s really important to start looking for evidence to support that new belief. The new belief that you want to create.
And it’s also important to start noticing the thoughts you have that are created by the belief that you have. If you have a belief about scarcity of money, many of the thoughts that you have and the things that you say, will reflect that belief.
If you want to start changing your beliefs, it’s important to start changing the thoughts that you have in the words that you speak around the new belief that you want.
What thoughts do you need to start thinking in order to grow your new belief? Beliefs are simply habits. To create a new belief, you simply need to create a new habit.
Start writing down your beliefs as you notice them. Especially the beliefs that you have that are limiting you and holding you back from the things that you want out of your life.
Determine the new belief that you want to replace that old belief with and then figure out what thoughts that you will need to have in order to create your new belief. And the more evidence that you look for and the more evidence you find for your new belief, the quicker you’re going to be able to create the new belief. The quicker you’re going to believe in your new belief.
The thoughts that you have that you create around your new belief are going to be thoughts that create different actions that you take in your life, which will then create new and different results.
The more new and different results you start to see in your life, the more confidence and the more evidence you’ll have for your new belief.
Just remember every result that you have right now in your life today is based on a belief that you have. And the habit of that belief is what has created the thoughts that you have and the actions you take that create the results that you have.
Start noticing your beliefs. Start looking into what beliefs that you have. And if you don’t like them, change them. It really is that simple. It does take time, but you’ll see change happening in your life almost daily. If you work on this daily, you will start seeing changes daily.
Remember to enjoy the journey. Enjoy discovering your beliefs. Enjoy discovering the new beliefs that you want to create in your life. Enjoy it all. Life is a journey to be enjoyed and not rushed through in order to get to a final destination. It’s all about the journey.
Become curious about who you are. Become curious about why you are the way you are and enjoy the deciding on who you want to become.
That’s the greatest thing about all of this is that you get to decide who you’re going to be. Everything is changeable. You don’t have to remain who and what life has programmed you to be.
It is your choice. Start taking back control of your life. Control of your beliefs. Control of your thoughts, Control of your results. Those are all things that are in your control.
